SOME RANDOM NFL THOUGHTS

With the Texans on pace for another high draft pick I feel the NFL shouldn't allow them to take Adrian Peterson. This should be there penalty for taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush. However, chances are the Texans will screw this up without NFL influence.

The Packers cut 1st round bust Ahmad Carroll this week. The Packers had horrible drafts in 2004 and 2005, picking Carroll and Aaron Rodgers respectively. In 2004, Chris Gamble and Karlos Dansby were available. In 2005, Luis Castillo and Mike Patterson were there. It's really a shame that the Packers have failed to surround Favre with talent in the twilight of his career.

The release of Ahmad Carroll also caused me to look at the 2004 first round, which was really one of the most solid in recent memory. The following players were chosen in the first round: Eli Manning, Larry Fitzgerald, Phillip Rivers, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow Jr., Roy Williams (WR), Deangelo Hall, Dunta Robinson, Big Ben, Jonathan Vilma, Tommie Harris, DJ Williams, Steven Jackson, and Ben Watson. In fact you could argue that the only true bust in the top 15 picks was Robert Gallery to Oakland with the second pick. Any other of the 15 players would have been a huge boost to Oakland's team. Poor Al Davis.

With the fifth week looming not many coaches appear to be on the hot seat. However, Jeff Fisher and Jon Gruden must show some sense of improvement in order to keep their jobs. Also, if Dennis Green continues to lose and Marty Schottenheimer fails to get the Chargers back to the playoffs, you can expect them both to be looking for jobs very quickly.

One cannot overlook the fabulous job Scott Linehan is doing in St. Louis, but that's exactly what's happening. Some people seem to say that the Rams are off to a fluke start, but its not the case. The Rams defense is vastly improved and Linehan has Marc Bulger playing the smartest and best football of his life. Bulger is yet to throw an interception this season. Meanwhile, the Dolphins main reasons for struggle is losing Linehan, not Daunte Culpepper.
