SUNDAY RECAP: AFC VARIETY

Ronnie Brown- The Dolphins RB had a decent day with 89 yards and a TD, but the story here is that aggravated a groin injury that had been bothering him. The extent of the injury is unclear, but right now it appears like he will play on Sunday. Make sure to keep a close eye on how he does in practice this week to see if he'll play.

Anthony Thomas- Filling in for the injured Willis McGahee, Thomas had a pretty good day with 109 yards on the ground. The Bills were committed to getting Thomas the ball as was shown through his 28 carries. Thomas has another fantastic matchup next week against Houston.

Leon Washington/Kevan Barlow- After leading the team in carries the past few weeks, Washington switched roles with Barlow on Sunday. Washington had just 9 carries for 35 yards while Barlow had 75 yards and a TD on 17 carries. It could vary weekly who gets more carries, so neither will ever be a great start. Avoid both next week against Chicago's defense.

Corey Dillon/Laurence Maroney- Sunday was Dillon's day to shine as RB. He finished with 98 yards and a TD compared to Maroney's 37 yards. Maroney actually had one more carry than Dillon, but he was far less productive. Dillon is the team's main RB though, as well as their best TD threat on the ground. Unless Dillon gets hurt, it's hard to play Maroney.

Carson Palmer- The Bengals QB had his best performance of the year with 440 yards passing and 3 TDs. He was finally able to find Chad Johnson, which greatly helped his statistics. A key fumble late cost the Bengals the game, but to fantasy owners Palmer was a hero. It will be interesting to see if Palmer can continue to find Chad as they face a must win game next week against the Saints.

Chad Johnson- Not only did Chad Johnson top 100 yards receiving for the first time all year, he made up for lost time by topping 200 as well. Ocho Cinco finished with 260 yards receiving and 2 TDs. The game boosted Chad's numbers to a respectable 743 yards receiving and 4 TDs through 9 games. However, it's unclear whether this game can be considered a turning point or a rare occasion in a disappointing year.

Willie Parker- Another huge performance was turned in by Fast Willie Parker as he rushed for 213 yards and 2 TDs against the Saints. It was a slow start for Parker, but he busted two 70 yard runs in the second half. Another promising sight was that Parker was able to score on two carries from inside the 5 yard line. He's having a phenomenal season so far, and it should continue next week against Cleveland.

Ben Roethlisberger- Once dubbed as a QB that just managed the game, Big Ben has completely transformed into a gunslinger. He had his best game of the year throwing for 3 TDs and 0 INTs. He's already only 6 attempts behind all of last season. He has actually become a very good fantasy QB due to his yards and TDs. It should be another offensive explosion next week against Cleveland.

Steve McNair- Emotions were high as McNair returned to Tennessee, and he found himself in an early huge hole. However, like he used to for the Titans, McNair willed his team to a thrilling come from behind victory. McNair had a great day with 373 yards and 3 TDs. Air McNair also had two costly INTs, but he was able to overcome them. It was a great day for the ex-MVP, but it's unlikely he can do this consistently enough to be a fantasy starter.

Mark Clayton- There's a new favorite WR for McNair, and his name is Mark Clayton. Over the past few weeks Clayton has overtook Derrick Mason as the team's go to WR. He had a tremendous 125 yard 1 TD performance as the Ravens came from behind to beat the Titans. He's become a good option every week in fantasy, but he could struggle next week against Atlanta if DeAngelo Hall is back to full strength.

Dominic Rhodes/Joseph Addai- Both Colts RB put up virtually indentical numbers, but the only difference was that Addai scored while Rhodes didn't. Rhodes rushed 14 times for 72 yards while Addai had 13 carries for 78 yards. Addai was relied on to run out the clock in the games waning moments. While neither has developed into a stud, Addai has the slight edge over Rhodes.

Vince Young- It was the most impressive performance Young had all year as he almost led the Titans to a tremendous upset over the Baltimore Ravens. Young had a career high 211 yards passing and also ran for a TD. While it was an impressive performance, the only thing that this says is that one day Young will be a star. The one day is not this year, so don't rely on him quite yet.

David Carr- If there's one thing the Texans can do it's beat the Jaguars. While Carr wasn't too impressive, it's the injury bug that makes him worth talking about. Carr suffered an injury to his shoulder and had to be replaced by Sage Rosenfels. There have been conflicting reports in regards to the injury. He was first called "week to week", but then Coach Kubiak said he expects Carr to play. It's quite unclear right now, and a week of practice will sort through the mess.

David Garrard- An awful, awful game for David Garrard. Hopefully this will open the eyes of Jaguars coaches and cause them to realize that Byron Leftwich clearly gives them a better chance to win. Garrard had 4 INTs and couldn't get much of a rhythm going. Leftwich may have surgery on his ankle this week, but if he doesn't expect him to return to the starting role eventually this season.

Tatum Bell- In his return to the lineup, Bell was relatively unimpressive with 14 carries for 37 yards. There was no threat of Mike Bell because the Broncos made him inactive basically because Mike Shanahan secretly hates all his RBs. Next week Tatum will be closer to full strength against San Diego, so he'll probably perform better than he did this week.

Philip Rivers- Don't be fooled he's not the next Dan Marino like some people may lead to believe on ESPN, but he is a very good young QB. Rivers had his best game as a pro on Sunday as he threw for 337 yards and 3 TDs in a thrilling come from behind win. He's playing with no restrictions, and looks better than fellow QBs in his draft class Eli and Big Ben. Playing with LT helps him significantly, so it was a great situation for him to come into. Next week will be a tougher test going up against a tough Broncos defense.

LaDainian Tomlinson- In case you haven't heard, LT has 10 touchdowns in his last three games. While it's highly unlikely this sort of run will continue, there still isn't a better RB in football. In addition to his 18 TDs, he also is third in the NFL in rushing. The Chargers schedule is very favorable the rest of the way, and LT only needs 11 TDs in the team's final 7 games to break the NFL record set last year by Shaun Alexander.

Tony Gonzalez- It looked as though Tony Gonzalez had regained his old form, so it is even a bigger shame that Gonzalez went down with a shoulder injury. The injury will likely sideline him for 2-3 weeks. With every game virtually a must win for the Chiefs in that tough division, it's a huge blow for the Chiefs. This confirms that it will become the Larry Johnson show for the remainder of the season.
