SUNDAY RECAP: NFC STYLE
Tiki Barber- The league's leading rusher had another tremendous game finishing with 141 yards on the ground. Like usual, Brandon Jacobs picked up two short yardage touchdowns that were set up by Barber. Tiki did injure his thumb, but there seem to be no issues with it considering he finished strong. Tiki was clearly not the reason the Giants lost.
Clinton Portis- Despite his preseason injury, Portis got off to a nice start with 7 touchdowns at the halfway point. However, the Redskins suffered a devastating injury when Portis broke his right hand early in the game. It appears like he'll miss 3-4 weeks, but if Washington is completely out of it, they may not risk bringing him back. Ladell Betts had 83 yards as a replacement, and he should be owned in all leagues.
Santana Moss- There was question all week if he would play or not, but he did, and the hype proved pointless. Moss finished with 3 catches for 17 yards. The hamstring and poor QB play hampered Moss. He's a much better start next week against Tampa Bay when he will be closer to 100%.
Donte' Stallworth- In his second game back from injury, Stallworth exploded for 139 yards and a TD. He clearly is at full strength now, and he's even a better play because Reggie Brown tweaked his hamstring, and there's a chance he'll miss a game. The Eagles play the Titans next week, and Stallworth should have another big game.
Tony Romo- In his third career start, Romo carved up the Arizona defense for 309 yards and 2 TDs. It was his best start as a pro, and it showed that he is the real deal. He has a nice chemistry with Terrell Owens, which is good when your dealing with the most insane man in football. The Cowboys will look to upset Indy next week behind the arm of Romo. He should be started until he proves otherwise.
Brett Favre- In what has been a tremendous bounce back season, Favre went into a place where he rarely performs well and tore it up. He had his season high in yardage (347) and 2 TDs. While Favre clearly is no longer one of the best fantasy QBs in the game, he's returned to being a very solid option. Next week he'll face a tough test against New England.
Thomas Jones- After a slow start, Jones finished with a season high 113 yards and a TD. It's troubling to see that Jones' yard per carry is still under 4, but the Bears give him an extensive amount of carries so it has not developed into an issue. Cedric Benson is of now concern considering he only received three carries last night. Jones should have another good day next week against the Jets.
Rex Grossman- It looked like Grossman was off to another awful game with an early turnover, but as the game went on, Rex was able to take advantage of a Giants defense ravaged by injuries. He finished with 246 yards, 3 TDs and an INT. Grossman is so inconsistent that no matter who the opponent is, you don't know what to expect. As a result of that, it's a tough decision whether to play him against the Jets.
Michael Vick- The Falcons QB followed up the best two games of his life with two awful performances. Against a weak Browns defense, Vick had only 197 yards and 1 TD to go along with two INTs in the loss. Vick, like Grossman, is impossible to predict which makes him always a risky play. It would be smart to keep him away from your lineup next week against Baltimore.
Drew Brees- In a game full of offense, Brees did not disappoint with 398 yards and a TD. Were it not for the poor play of WR Terrence Copper, Brees most likely would have led the Saints to a game tying TD. Brees has been one of the most reliable players in fantasy this season, and he should keep it up next week against a very vulnerable Bengals defense.
Marques Colston- If you guessed that the rookie of the year would be on the Saints you were right. Except you probably thought it was Bush. After another 10 catch 169 outburst, Colston is just 131 yards shy of becoming the first WR in the NFL to gain 1000 this season. It's hard to find any WR out there who's better at this point, and Colston also benefits from a terrific schedule lying ahead.
Reggie Bush- The other Saints rookie has a very promising game that shows he's back in the right direction. Bush finished with 10 carries for 49 yards and his first non-special teams TD. He also had 7 catches for 40 yards. While he's a lost cause at RB this year, expect a massive improvement stats wise next year. Right now his impact defies statistics which makes him are a hard play in fantasy.
Marc Bulger- The reinvented Rams QB had by far his worst game of the season Sunday against Seattle. He only managed 215 yards and an INT. His two picks have both come against Seattle, so his owners have to be glad they are out of the way. His struggles have come from his inability to get Torry Holt the ball. Expect a better game next week against Carolina.
Steven Jackson- The third year RB had another impressive day as he went for 93 yards on 18 carries and a TD. He's become an elite fantasy RB under Coach Linehan. The area which he has improved the most is the passing game. He already has career highs in catches and receiving yards. Expect the stats to continue for the rest of the year.
Maurice Morris- Shaun Alexander's replacement had his second straight impressive game with 124 yards rushing. It's disappointing that he wasn't able to find the end zone for the first time all year, but his performance was the main reason why Seattle won. It appears like Alexander will play next week, but if he doesn't Morris is a must start against the 49ers.
Frank Gore- Coming off his worst game of the season, Gore responded for his season high with 159 yards on the ground. He also had a TD. Yardage wise, Gore has been one of the best RBs in the league, and he remains an every week start for fantasy. The rest of his schedule is not very intimidating, so Gore should continue as one of the better stories in football this season.
Larry Fitzgerald- In his first game back from injury, Fitz finished with a solid 80 yards receiving. The biggest scare was him leaving early with an apparent re-aggravation of his hamstring injury. However, everything appears fine, and he should have another solid game next week against Detroit.
Matt Leinart- After his first game against Chicago, it appeared that Leinart would skip all of the rookie woes that typically come to QBs. However, Leinart has become a engulfed by them currently as he threw seventh interception in 6 games. He puts up yardage, but with his inexperience and a weak offensive line, he struggles with consistency. Next year should be a totally different situation for him.
