SUNDAY RECAP: NFC STYLE
Jeremy Shockey- The Giants TE had another rather unproductive week with one catch for only 13 yards. However, the bigger story is a foot injury he suffered late in the game. He will have X-rays this week, and considering his past, it would be a small miracle for him to survive all 16 games.
Donovan McNabb- In a game that probably meant the world to McNabb, the Eagles QB had another impressive outing. McNabb went for 354 yards and 2 TDs. Donovan shows no signs of slowing down this season, and him, Peyton Manning, and Carson Palmer will be the top fantasy QBs all year.
Brian Westbrook- In what was a very surprising move to many, Brian Westbrook played on Sunday. He was relatively unproductive in the running game averaging only 3 yards a carry on 11 carries. Westbrook is another player who will never be truly healthy, and he'll be a week to week decision for the rest of the year.
Terrell Owens- Following the game on Sunday, T.O. was a very angry man. He managed only three catches for 45 yards, but most of his unproductiveness can be contributed to the poor QB play by Bledsoe. If Owens continues to have games like this, it's inevitable that things will escalate in Dallas.
Drew Bledsoe- The Dallas QB had one of the truly dreadful performances by a QB this season. Bledsoe took forever to get rid of the ball, took sacks, couldn't make decisions, and threw unnecessary interceptions. He singlehandedly cost Dallas the game on Sunday. Parcells isn't happy, Owens isn't happy, and Tony Romo could be starting soon.
Greg Jennings- One of the early candidates for rookie of the year is Packers WR Greg Jennings. He was the go-to guy all day for Favre. He runs crisp routes and shows no signs of slowing down. In five games this season he has 20 receptions for 364 yards and three TDs. He seems to get better every week, and you should try to grab him if you can.
Noah Herron- Surprise! The Packers backup RB defied all expectations by topping 100 yards and scoring a TD. These were numbers we may expect from Vernand Morency, but Herron started off hot, and the Packers kept feeding the hot hand. With Ahman Green often hurt, Herron is a nice player to have on your bench.
Roy Williams- Early in the game on Sunday, Roy Williams was carted into the locker room with a shoulder injury. He did not return, and the injury could be serious. He should have an MRI this week, and maybe, just maybe, if he's hurt we'll see Mike Williams catch a ball in a game.
Kevin Jones- One of the most overrated players in the league disappointed again on Sunday with 10 carries for 8 yards. He also left late in the game with a concussion. He may not play next week, but you should hardly notice with his lack of productivity this season. The Lions are looking forward to a very long season this year.
Rex Grossman- Okay, apparently he's become an every week start. Another two TDs this week has put him among fantasy's elite QBs this season. He hasn't showed any signs of slowing down either. Grossman also seems to have established a new go-to guy in Bernard Berrian. Both players are must starts for the foreseeable future.
Bruce Gradkowski/Joey Galloway- The rookie QB looked very sharp in his first start with 225 yards passing and two touchdowns. Like I said last week, he relied on Galloway in the passing game, and Joey had a big day with plus 100 yards and a TD. Galloway can be relied on as a fantasy starter, however Gradkowski definitely is not there yet. It'll be interesting to see how Gradkowski does against a Bengals next week who forces a lot of turnovers.
Cadillac Williams- The first good day for any Auburn RB in the league (this is your wakeup call Ronnie Brown). Caddilac was very impressive against a Saints defense who has done a good job against the run this year. This could be the start of big things to come for Williams, but Gradkowski will have to continue to play well or defenses will load up to stop the run.
Steve Smith- Another decent week for one of the league's best WR as he had 62 yards receiving. He's definitley not completely healthy. He probably will not be 100% until later in the season. You still should start him every week, but don't expect numbers like last year for awhile.
Deshaun Foster/DeAngelo Williams- Foster had another solid game topping 100 yards on the ground. The biggest news for Foster was that Williams suffered an ankle injury in the game. If Williams is sidelined for awhile, Foster will be safe as the starter and get all the carries. However, Foster had only performed well once his job was in doubt, so I'm not sure what Foster owners would prefer.
Reggie Bush/Deuce McAllister- TOUCHDOWN! Finally, the highly touted RB got into the endzone. It was on a punt return to defeat the Buccanears on Sunday. Although Bush got into the endzone, he's far too inconsistent as a runner to start at RB every week. Especially with Deuce McAllister coming off a great performance on the ground. McAllister seems to be the best Saints RB to own at this moment.
Marc Bulger- Let's all take a second to recognize truly how good Bulger has been this year. With another two touchdown performance, Bulger made his owners happy. Even more astonishing, he has yet to throw an interception this season. Scott Linehan should win coach of the year for this alone. He should have a tough matchup against Seattle next week, but it's hard to sit him these days.
Matt Leinart- He seems to be the perfect fit for this offense. He started off well, had the team in the game, and finished strong. With all of this talent around him, he's going to be a star in the league one day. Next year he should be a top 15 QB in the league, but he's not a fantasy starter yet.
Larry Fitzgerald- The star third year WR could be done for awhile after feeling his hamstring pop yesterday. It sounds like he'll definitely be out for a few weeks, and Bryant Johnson will start in his place. Johnson played very well on Sunday, and he should be picked up in all fantasy leagues if Fitzgerald is hurt.
Frank Gore- The Niners RB had a huge bounce back game against the Raiders on Sunday. Gore went for 134 yards on the ground and did not fumble for the first time all year. Michael Robinson got a goal-line carry but could not convert. Gore plays the Chargers next week and should struggle.
